Arne Jacobsen in 1952
The AJ52 Society Table was designed by the innovative Danish architect Arne Jacobsen in 1952, as part of a complete set of office furniture for the office of the American-Scandinavian Foundation in New York, commissioned by Burmeister & Wain, a major Danish shipyard. Jacobsen united Bauhaus, functionalism and industrial aesthetics in the design of this unique piece. The slim AJ52 desk features a fine leather top wrapped tightly around a tubular metal frame. A conical desk lamp in brushed stainless steel and a wooden letter box complement the design perfectly. The unit with 6 drawers is suspended from fine metal tubes, which enhances the lightness of the design.
